Become a Zoo Keeper

A day in the life of a Zookeeper

〰️

A day in the life of a Zookeeper 〰️

Use your birthday party to become a junior keeper and be a Zoo Hero!

By choosing to become a Zoo Keeper for the day, your gift will go to Taronga Zoo - a leading wildlife conservation organisation in Australia.

Taronga is not-for-profit. Every dollar you spend saves wildlife.  Through their work they:

  • Care for animals

  • Breed endangered species

  • Protect wildlife through research, education, and habitat conservation programs both locally and globally.

This zoo-keeping experience is a specially designed hands-on day for children who are keen to work with animals or in conservation when they grow up.

Guided by a team of experienced and dedicated staff, you will join a small group at Taronga Zoo, Sydney to learn the daily routines and responsibilities of a Taronga Keeper. Through a range of interactive husbandry activities and special behind the scenes visits, Junior Keepers will have up close encounters with some of Taronga’s Australian Native animals and learn how to care for and protect them into the future.

What to expect from your experience

  • Meet and greet with Zoo Keepers and Educators

  • Participate in daily husbandry activities including various animal feeds

  • Developing and providing animal enrichment items

  • Animal encounters

  • Behind-the-scene access to Taronga Zoo

  • You will also receive a program t-shirt, completion certificate plus one (1) adult zoo admission on the date of child participating in the program

This experience is for children ages 8+ only

If you choose to support Taronga Zoo with your birthday, we will purchase a Junior Keeper voucher on your behalf. You will then book the experience directly with Taronga Zoo on a date that suits you. Their full T&Cs for participating can be found here

There is a minimum donation amount of $170 for this experience. If you exceed this amount we will contact you to see if you would like to donate the additional money directly to the zoo, or book an additional experience/purchase a gift from their store. If you do not reach $170 you can either ‘top-up’ the amount, or choose an alternative experience/gift from Taronga Zoo.
